Flying Roast Goose
Folded Feather was commissioned by Out of Chaos with the design and fabrication of the set, costume and puppet elements for Flying Roast Goose towards the production's June 2014 season.
Flying Roast Goose has as its context Hong Kong before, during and after the Japanese Invasion in 1941.
A principle character is a Chinese goose called Yung Yung.
A fabric backdrop is stylised around a Chinese junk boat sail and has as its structure bamboo, reminiscent of the scaffolding common to Hong Kong.
A street food cart "dai pai dong" completes the scene.
Shadow puppetry is projected both onto a screen on the cart and onto the fabric backdrop.
All parts of the scenery physically express explosion and destruction through profound transformation.
The costume is styled from the period and in keeping with the simple and clear design aesthetic.
